It was very common amongst our friends group to bunk classes during our college days , that too during the first three years.
1..Boring lectures were the no.1 reason. .We get bored bcos we don't understand them bcos we don't read...
2..Sleepiness. ..The cause of which could be the boring lecture or the card or carroms bet match played all through the night at hostel. In the last case coming to college in the morning itself is rare...& If it happens bunking 2nd hr is inevitable ...
3.Release of new films is a catalyst for bunking. .
4.Just for the fun of bunking without any reason. .or for heroism. .
Factors which prevent bunking are...
1.Already nice sleeping session in the last bench maintains the status quo for further classes & prevents bunking. .
2.Friendly lecturers who don't mind us sleeping peacefully, without disturbing the class.
3.Some good gossip & discussion is going on & you don't want to miss it by bunking. .
4.Intresting indoor games is going on along with the lecture, like book cricket or "girls cricket"..or 3 line chess etc..and you don't want to interrupt the flow..
5.Some good rapport is developing with the girls. ..its some ones birthday or something else & you don't want to disassociate from this golden chance. .
6.Rarely. ...very rarely. ..due to an intresting lecture by very good teachers like Jones sir or GT sir...
Heroism was also rampant among us.Every one wanted to do something different to attract others mainly the opposite sex..Someone did with his new bike, racing the engine ,doing wheelies , others with their... approach , style, way of dressing, different hair style, gym body, calm studious methodology ,some with their smile, way of talking ..caring..and even by remaining aloof & not recognising their presence. Every one tried &tried in their own way. . ..that's the main point.After watching Discovery, now I know that it's a feature of males in every species of animals including humans & so we were no exception. Rather we were going along the right way of genetic evolution. .! It was like everyone wanted to be a hero. ..but were we heroes in others eyes ?!!! I doubt it , more of comedians I think & feel now. . Instead of being Mask of Zorro we became marks of zero or Mask of Sorrow...! But we didn't care, as long as we had a jolly good time, we were heroes to ourselves. ..!
This Heroism was due to certain stereotypical notions or misconceptions that we harboured from our school days, influenced by numerous unrealistic Tamil films & by boasting college seniors . It was like this ....
College is a place to enjoy. ..
Cool guys don't read daily...They touch & open the book just before the exams.
They stand without remorse & don't answer when asked questions by the lecturer..
They sit in the last bench....
Bunk classes..
They act tough..
Its cool to get out of the class by punishment or by stealth. ..
They don't speak with the girls ...& one step more they tease them & irritate them by launching paper rockets & throwing chalk pieces ..
..that's the way to heroism during college days , we thought. (Evlo thappunu ippa thaan theriyuthu..? !!!)

5. OP bunking during clincal years is similar to dissection bunking in 1st yr. Mainly not able to get up early & not able to stand for 2 hrs continously in the Formalin stench or in the swealtering OP ..
